About
Who we are R Community Choirs – Birmingham CIC is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving wellbeing through singing. We run open-access choirs where anyone can come along, regardless of experience, background or ability.
Our rehearsals are relaxed, friendly and full of laughter. Our hope is that you leave happier than when you arrived. We provide folders with words and music, but you are not expected to read music — we learn as we go along. Our focus is on learning together.
We often sing in unison, but also sing in three parts: soprano, alto and tenor. Sopranos usually have the higher voices and sing the melody, altos sing a lower harmony and tenors are the lowest group, often the men. If you’re not sure where you fit, no problem — try one, and if it doesn’t feel comfortable, try another. To help, we provide rehearsal tracks on our YouTube channel so you can learn the songs and parts at home.
After every rehearsal we enjoy refreshments and home-baked cake, creating a fun space to get to know each other and build community.
The choirs are led by Andy, a trained musician with many years of experience leading community groups. Andy loves life and is passionate about helping people discover the joy of singing and building community.
